Rock your workout - Turning Up the Music to Pump Up Your Workout - Ever notice yourself pushing harder through a workout just simply because of the song you are listening to? The time seems to fly by when an upbeat song pumps through the head phones of your iPod. You are running faster, lifting heavier and the pain… what pain? It’s as if you were spoon fed a burst of energy while the song plays, but when it’s over your momentum drops. Music can have a very profound effect on performance in the gym. It can boost you up or even slow you down. Just as designing a personalized exercise program is important for improved results, so is customizing your workout tunes. Make sure your playlists are packed with motivating melodies for an ultra effective workout. Create a playlist for your workout that starts with slower beats for your warm up and works its way up to a fast beat for those heavy reps. Again, slow the tempo down for your cool down stretch. This customization will create a map work for your routine and you’ll also know not to stop until that Ace of Base song is over. Having a hard time getting motivated to go to the gym? Music works great for that too! Next time you are thinking about going to the gym; just get in the car, turn up your music and let the speakers do the rest. (Well, you should probably focus on driving too.) Throw in some Destiny’s Child, Madonna, or anything that will get your head bobbing. It will help pump you up for what’s to come. Want to mix it up a little? Try my personal workout mix for a fast and fun workout that will keep you motivated from the first note to the last.
